Alkass Sports Frequencies: Four HD Services, One Carrier

The Alkass sports services occupy one carrier in our list — 11919 H at 27500 3/4 — carrying 4 HD services and nothing else.
A small, clean multiplex like this is unusual in a band mostly filled with crowded carriers, and the configuration is a deliberate engineering choice rather than an accident.
Fewer services, more protection each
This carrier runs 3/4 FEC rather than the 5/6 most of the band uses. That means a quarter of the transmission is error correction instead of a sixth — less room for services, more resilience for the ones carried.
Put those two facts together and the reasoning is clear. Four HD services on a 3/4 carrier is a low-density, high-protection arrangement: each service gets a generous share of the capacity and the whole carrier tolerates a worse signal than its neighbours.
For live sport that trade-off is the right one. A drama channel that breaks up for two seconds is an annoyance you can rewind past. A goal you miss is gone. Spending capacity on robustness rather than on packing in more services is what you would choose if uninterrupted delivery mattered more than channel count.

What to expect when receiving it
Because all four services share one carrier, they behave identically. They lock together, they degrade together, and they will not partially fail. If one of the four is present, all four are.
Two practical notes follow from the configuration:
- Manual scanning: enter 3/4, not 5/6. A receiver told to expect the wrong ratio can fail to lock a carrier that is arriving perfectly.
- Weather: this carrier will outlast most of the band in rain. That is the FEC working as designed, not a sign that other channels have a fault.
Encryption is a separate question
Locking the carrier and storing the services is a reception result. Whether the services are viewable depends on whether they are broadcast in the clear or encrypted at the time, and rights-holding broadcasters commonly encrypt live sport and change that arrangement per event.
So a strong quality reading with a blank picture is not a reception fault to chase — the signal arrived intact, and access is a different layer entirely. If the channels were viewable last month and are not now, nothing about your installation has changed.
