Filipino and International Entertainment Frequencies on One Wide Carrier

This is the most eclectic carrier in our list. A single frequency — 11881 H at 30000 3/4 — holds 19 services spanning Filipino television, international music channels, business news and factual programming.

There is no editorial theme tying them together, and there does not need to be. A transponder is leased capacity; the operator fills it with whoever is buying. Audiences that look unrelated to each other end up on the same carrier because they happened to contract at the same time.

The symbol rate is the thing to get right

This carrier runs at 30000, not the 27500 that most of the band uses. Only a few carriers in our list do, and every one of them is horizontally polarised.

On a manual scan that difference decides whether you find anything. Enter 27500 out of habit and the receiver tunes the right frequency, with the dish aimed correctly, and reports an empty carrier. The transmission is arriving; the demodulator has been told to expect a narrower one.

On a blind scan, most modern receivers work the rate out for themselves. Older tuners search a limited set of rates or step past wider carriers, which produces a characteristic result: the scan finds most of the satellite and consistently misses the same block every time.

The FEC here is 3/4 rather than 5/6, so this carrier is more weather-tolerant than the majority of the band. If these channels hold during a shower while others break up, that is the error correction doing its job.

One lock, a very mixed result

Scanning this frequency stores all of it. You cannot take part of a multiplex — the receiver demultiplexes whatever the carrier contains. Expect channels you were not looking for, and prune afterwards if you want a shorter list.

Because they share a carrier, all of these services behave as one unit. They lock together and degrade together. A partial result means the multiplex contents changed, not that reception is partly working.

Subscription and free-to-air are mixed here

Some services on this carrier are broadcast in the clear and some are encrypted, and that mix changes over time as contracts change. Storing a service does not tell you whether it will display.

A confident lock with a good quality figure and a black screen is the expected result for an encrypted service. It is not a reception problem, and there is nothing in your installation to fix.

Checklist

  • Nothing found on this frequency: check the symbol rate first — 30000, not 27500.
  • This carrier and every other horizontal one missing: voltage. The LNB is not reaching 18 V.
  • Found before, gone now: blind scan the range. A moved carrier takes all its services with it.
